The Old Town of Muscat is charming and full of character. Chosen as the capital of Oman for its defensive position, it is encircled by steep barren mountains with the anchorage in the bay protected from the sea by two forts built in the sixteenth century. Approach by vehicle was impossible until a road was carved through the mountains in the 1920s and the town still retains a unique character. This trail takes you from the sparkling new National Museum, past the Sultan’s romantic palace and down to the edge of the bay before turning back to discover the oldest house in town and an excellent museum, with a café where you can relax and plan where to visit next in this delightful city.

The Forest is best known as the home of Winnie the Pooh, the lovable bear created by AA Milne and brought to life in the drawings of EH Shepard. AA Milne lived just two miles from the start point of our Trail, which takes you to several of the sites featured in the books including The Enchanted Place, the Heffalump Trap and the North Pole. The Trail is mostly level apart from a gradual descent into a valley, but the ground is uneven in places and not great for buggies. Dogs will love it!
